Principles – Change

True change is not merely external but is rather a transformation that begins within us. Behavioral change requires a change of heart. This desire to change empowers youth, parents, and families to realize their full potential. Voluntarily chosen religious and spiritual beliefs, wholeheartedly practiced, can have a significant impact on individuals, encouraging them to embrace change, seek redemption, and find hope.

These questions are designed to help families talk, listen, and grow together.

  1. What does true change mean—is it just doing things differently or changing who you are inside?  What is an important change you have made in your life?
  2. Can you think of a time when you tried to change but didn’t succeed at first? Why?
  3. Why is a change of heart more important than just changing behavior?
  4. How can setting goals and having a desire to improve help you grow as a person?
  5. What role does forgiveness—both giving and receiving—play in personal change?
  6. Is faith important to your choices?  If so, how can your faith or spiritual beliefs guide you to make lasting changes?
  7. What’s the difference between change that happens because someone tells you to and change you choose for yourself?
  8. How can embracing change help you reach your full potential as a student, friend, or family member?
  9. How can hope and redemption inspire you to keep improving, even when it’s difficult?
  10. In what way would you like to change for the better? Why is it important to be patient with yourself and others during the process of change?
